DANCERS POSE DONE 2 WAYS

DANCERS POSE DONE 2 WAYS

PASSIVE STRETCHING  VS
ACTIVE STRETCHING

PASSIVE STRETCHING, seen first where @tana.yoga uses a strap/ external force to assist in the pose- almost completely relying on her flexibility + balance. This can improve our flexibility/ is often practiced towards the end of a yoga class as a cool down, using gravity/ external force to sink deeper into your stretch.

ACTIVE STRETCHING is seen were@tana.yoga does a version of dancers pose without a strap, using the sheer strength of her muscles, not relying on any external forces to get into a shape but working really hard to lift her leg without assistance. There is no wrong or right here but to really encourage everyone to incorporate active stretching more into your movement practice especially if you are naturally flexible or even hypermobile like Tana and tend to fall back on habitual passive stretching. It’s so important to be working those muscles to help stabilize + ultimately balance out your practice with equal strength + mobility ♥ what are your thoughts on active vs passive stretching?
